August 18, 1930 – Johnny Preston was born “John Preston Courville” in Port Arthur, Texas. He was discovered by J.P. Richardson (The Big Bopper) who penned Preston’s hit “Running Bear” which was recorded in 1958 and released after Richardson’s tragic death.
